Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kageshi?
Kageshi is a webcam chatroom site that allows anyone to create and run their own video chat.
Can I have a history lesson?
Kageshi started out as a fun project to make a stickam alternative in 2011. It was first launched by uploading chat.swf to 4chan's /f/ board around xmas 2011, to get some testing and feedback (so xmas is considered the birthday).
A very basic site was then created called Shitty Chat, and user accounts were added a few weeks later.
The site was called Shitty Chat (shittychat.com) until Jan 2013 when it was renamed to Kageshi (kageshi.com).
Are there any rules on Kageshi?
There are global rules which apply to all rooms, these can be found here: kageshi.com/rules
Rooms may also have their own rules, please check with the room owner for these.
What are the technical requirements for Kageshi?
You will need a Windows, Mac, or Linux desktop or laptop, with a modern browser and the latest Adobe Flash Player.
Is there a mobile version of Kageshi?
A mobile app has been started for Android, but there is no ETA. Any app that allows you to run Adobe Flash should work with Kageshi, however, you will not be able to stream.
Is nudity acceptable on Kageshi?
Yes, nudity is allowed within rooms. It is not allowed on profile and room images. The room owner can decide not to allow nudity. Please also remember that as with anything on the internet, you may be screen capped or recorded by another user.
Why is my period brown?
It is normal to experience brown coloured discharge towards the end of menstruation, this is just old blood leaving your body. However, if it lasts more than a couple weeks you should consult a doctor, as it could be a sign of infection.
What are admins?
Admins are the volunteer moderation staff of Kageshi, they are enlisted from the regular userbase and are Kageshi regulars.
Their main role is enforcing the global rules found here: kageshi.com/rules
They are also here to help you with your room and answer any questions.
They will always have red names in rooms, and if you hover above the name it will say "Admin". If you cannot find help you can use the contact form here: kageshi.com/contact
How do I run a good room?
Welcome people, say hello when someone comes in, it is a chat room so why not chat with them?
Change the layout often, don't just leave it in 12 cam. Yes it causes people to get cammed down, but the people who are actually there will just cam back up, this will keep things fresh. Less open cam slots makes your room more welcoming.
You don't need to mod everyone, less mods and co-owners is better than too many. Try out different people, rotate them around, find people that have a mutual respect for the users.
Don't try to micromanage your mods, or nitpick over little things. Let people do their thing and have fun.
Be friends with other room owners, don't get jealous when your regulars visit other rooms. You can't expect complete loyalty.
Remember that most people will just go wherever their friends are.

Can I add co-owners to my room?
Yes, a room supports unlimited co-owners, but having too many usually leads to unnecessary drama. The co-owner will have as much power over the room as you do, and usually just having another mod is better.
